About the Des Moines “I Have a Dream” Foundation

The Des Moines “I Have a Dream” Foundation seeks to end the cycle of poverty through education. We work with the Des Moines Public School system to identify the highest populations of at-risk elementary school students. IHAD “adopts” an entire class and makes these kids a life-changing promise: If they graduate high school and go on to college, IHAD will pay their tuition.

We call our students Dreamers and believe in the transformational power of our pledge. A dedicated team of IHAD staff members and community volunteers employs early intervention strategies throughout our Dreamers’ education to support and prepare them for success in college or their careers.

IHAD also touches the daily lives of Dreamer families, providing academic support, parent programming, and building positive relationships through mentorships. Our education model seeks to lower the Des Moines dropout rate, which is a goal that creates a positive economic ripple effect on our community.

We are a locally based not-for-profit organization.
